Liver Cancer Treatment in Mexico

Targeted therapies combined with metabolic support to help improve liver function and treatment response.

Liver cancer is a serious condition that often develops in patients with underlying liver disease and may progress without clear symptoms in its early stages. At Immunotherapy Institute, we offer a comprehensive, integrative approach that combines advanced medical treatments with immune system support—designed to help patients manage the disease while maintaining quality of life.

What Is Liver Cancer?

Liver cancer occurs when abnormal cells grow uncontrollably in the liver, a vital organ responsible for detoxification, metabolism, and overall health. Many cases are associated with chronic liver conditions such as cirrhosis or long-term inflammation.

Because liver cancer can develop silently, early detection and personalized treatment planning are essential for improving outcomes.

Symptoms of Liver Cancer

In early stages, symptoms may be mild or absent. As the disease progresses, patients may experience:

  • Pain or discomfort in the upper abdomen
  • Unexplained weight loss or loss of appetite
  • Abdominal swelling or fluid retention
  • Jaundice (yellowing of the skin or eyes)

Diagnosis and Conventional Treatment

Diagnosis typically involves blood tests, imaging studies such as CT scans or MRI, and in some cases, a biopsy to confirm the presence of cancer. These tools help determine the stage of the disease and guide treatment decisions.

Treatment options depend on the stage of cancer and liver function. These may include surgery, ablation therapies, embolization procedures, chemotherapy, or immunotherapy. In select cases, a liver transplant may be considered.

An Integrative Approach to Liver Cancer Treatment

At Immunotherapy Institute, we complement conventional oncology with therapies designed to support the immune system and improve the body’s response to treatment. Our approach focuses not only on controlling tumor growth, but also on supporting liver function and overall health.

Treatment plans may include advanced immunotherapy, metabolic and nutritional support, and therapies aimed at enhancing treatment effectiveness while minimizing side effects. Each program is personalized based on the patient’s diagnosis, liver health, and medical history.

Supporting the Body Throughout Treatment

Maintaining strength and stability during treatment is essential, especially for patients with compromised liver function. Our programs include targeted nutrition, immune support, and carefully selected therapies designed to help patients better tolerate treatment and improve overall well-being.

By supporting detoxification processes, reducing inflammation, and promoting cellular health, we aim to create an environment that supports recovery and long-term wellness.

How we approach Liver Cancer

Immunotherapy+

The goal of cancer immunotherapy is to improve the body’s natural ability to find and destroy cancer cells. Successful immunotherapeutic approaches stimulate the natural defenses of the immune system and provide new ways to attack cancer. This is possible with comprehensive interventions that include cell therapy / immuno-pharmacological therapy in combination with nutritional, endocrine measures and supplements.

Hyperthermia+

Hyperthermia involves the use of heat to directly treat a tumor or increase the vulnerability of cancer cells to other forms of treatment, such as immunotherapy, vitamin C, chemotherapy, or radiotherapy.

Selenium+

Selenium is a naturally occurring element with both nutritional and toxicological properties. Higher selenium exposure and selenium supplements have been suggested to protect against several types of cancer.

Researcher have found that there’s a direct relation between higher levels of selenium and liver cancer incidence, furthermore lower levels are associated with higher mortality

SAMe+

Methionine is an essential amino acid that is metabolized mainly by the liver where it is converted to S-adenosylmethionine (SAMe). SAMe is mainly needed for methylation of a large variety of substrates (DNA, proteins, lipids and many other small molecules, so if the concentration of SAMe falls below a certain level the normal function of the liver will be also affected. Therefore, maintaining SAMe homeostasis may be a therapeutic target in liver cancer.

Omega 3 FA+

Researchers have examined the effect of DHA and EPA in human hepatoceullar cancer cells, a common type of liver cancer. After treating the cellsthey found an inhibition of cell growth dose-dependently associated with EPA and DHA. They believe that the effect observed in this study was due to apoptosis, or programmed self-destruction, of the cancer cells. In addition, DHA and EPA indirectly reduced levels of the protein beta-catenin, which, when elevated, has been linked to the development of some tumors.

A second experiment looked at the effect of omega-3 and omega-6 fatty acids in cholangiocarcinoma cells, which is an aggressive form of liver cancer, and discovered a similar ability of omega-3 fatty acids to inhibit cell growth and lower beta-catenin.

Questions? We've got answers.

Do you treat primary liver cancer and liver metastases?+

Yes. We treat primary liver cancer, such as hepatocellular carcinoma, and cancer that has spread to the liver from other organs, such as the colon. The plan depends on where the cancer started, how many tumors there are and how well your liver works.

Can liver cancer be treated without surgery?+

Often, yes. Depending on the size and number of tumors, options may include immunotherapy, targeted therapy and minimally invasive procedures such as cryoablation. Our team will explain which options fit your case.

Is immunotherapy used for liver cancer?+

Yes. Immunotherapy has become an important option for advanced hepatocellular carcinoma. We review your liver function, imaging and history to decide if immune-based treatment is right for you.

What if I also have cirrhosis or hepatitis?+

Many liver cancer patients also have cirrhosis or hepatitis B or C. These conditions affect which treatments are safe. Our oncologist reviews your liver function carefully and adjusts the plan to protect your liver.

Which records should I send for my case review?+

Please send recent CT or MRI scans, liver function tests, AFP levels, your pathology report if available, and a summary of previous treatments.

How do you handle complications or side effects?+

Patients are monitored daily during treatment. Side effects are tracked, documented and addressed in real time, sometimes with medication adjustments, sometimes with supportive therapy, and occasionally by pausing a treatment. The treating physician reviews the patient's status every day the patient is on-site.

Can I continue treatments I'm already on at home?+

Usually yes, but it depends on the specific medication and how it interacts with our protocol. Bring a complete medication list to the consultation. We coordinate with your home physician where possible.

Will my treatment plan change while I'm here?+

Sometimes. Blood work, imaging and response markers are checked during your stay, and the protocol is adjusted if the data suggests it should be. Any meaningful change is reviewed with you before it's implemented.

How is my treatment plan decided?+

After we receive your medical records, imaging and pathology, your case is reviewed by the medical board. They draft a proposed protocol: which therapies, in what sequence, over how many days. You then have a consultation with the treating physician to review it, ask questions and adjust before anything begins.

Do you offer CAR-T therapy?+

Yes, we offer CAR-T therapy in addition to our broader autologous immunotherapy program. Both are built on the same core principle: collecting the patient's own immune cells, engineering or activating them to better recognize cancer, and reinfusing them to do the work. Which approach fits your case, and how it's delivered, is reviewed during the medical consultation.

What supportive therapies do you offer?+

IV vitamin C, ozone therapy, hyperbaric oxygen, peptide therapy, IV nutrition, metabolic support, lymphatic therapy and others, selected based on the patient's case, not applied as a fixed menu. These are supportive, not curative. They're used to help the body tolerate and respond to the core treatment.

Do you use radiation?+

Radiation is not delivered on-site. When radiation is part of the recommended plan, we coordinate with established radiation oncology centers and incorporate it into the broader protocol.

Do you use chemotherapy?+

We do, when it's the right tool for a given case, and we say so clearly. For some cancers, metronomic chemotherapy combined with immunotherapy is more effective than immunotherapy alone. We don't reject chemo as a category; we use it strategically.

Do you only treat late-stage or terminal patients?+

No. We see patients at every stage: newly diagnosed, in active treatment elsewhere, in remission and looking to lower recurrence risk, and patients who have exhausted conventional options. The protocol is adjusted to the situation.

How does diet affect my immune system?+

What you eat affects how well your immune system works. Highly processed foods, added sugars and certain fats can drive chronic inflammation, while a diet built on whole foods, vegetables and quality protein gives your body what it needs to repair tissue and fight disease. During cancer treatment, good nutrition also helps you maintain strength and tolerate therapy. That's why every patient's meals are planned by our clinical nutritionist.

Why are supplements part of the Institute nutritional plan?+

Supplements are an important part of your nutrition plan. We use a specialized line of supplements chosen for each patient. Our medical team considers your medical history, lab work, specific medical tests, genetics, physical condition, lifestyle, age, sex and type of disease.

Your supplements are reviewed and adjusted over time as your body responds and finds the balance it needs.

What are the characteristics of the Institute nutrition plan?+

Every plan is crafted for the individual patient. Our nutrition plan is:

  • Free of chemicals and preservatives
  • Made with organic fruits and vegetables
  • Made with hormone-free meat
  • Paired with personalized supplements
  • Made with metal and mercury free fish
  • Hypoallergenic
  • Gluten and dairy free to promote immune tolerance
  • Alkaline-focused, built around vegetables, fruits and whole foods
How do you create my nutrition plan?+

Your personalized nutrition plan is developed, reviewed and refined by our medical team together with our clinical nutritionist, kitchen staff and functionally trained chefs.

They take into account your needs during a stressful time, any nutritional deficiencies, the foods your body needs most, your allergies, and your personal preferences in taste and presentation.

What is the difference between metronomic chemotherapy and conventional chemotherapy?+

Conventional chemotherapy is given at the highest dose the body can tolerate, followed by a recovery break. Metronomic chemotherapy uses smaller doses given more frequently on a steady schedule.

Like any chemotherapy, metronomic chemo is systemic: it travels through the whole body. But this dosing approach causes fewer side effects than conventional schedules, and it's used to support the immune response rather than suppress it, which is why it pairs well with immunotherapy.

What kind of hyperthermia do you offer?+

We use Heckel whole-body hyperthermia, which raises your core body temperature using infrared heat. No sedation is needed, and you stay awake and alert throughout the session.

Hyperthermia is a well-established therapy, studied for decades and used in cancer centers around the world. Clinical trials have shown that combining hyperthermia with chemotherapy or radiation can improve results, and it also enhances the effect of immunotherapy.

Hyperthermia also supports the body's elimination process, which helps reduce the side effects of other treatments. Many patients say they feel better within the first few sessions.

Sessions typically last 2 to 4 hours. Hyperthermia is generally well tolerated. Side effects are usually mild and are reviewed with you before treatment.

What is the difference between the immunotherapy offered through your program and what my doctors are recommending at home?+

There are two main types of immunotherapy: pharmacological and autologous. We offer both, and we have seen great success with autologous immunotherapy.

In autologous cellular immunotherapy, we collect your immune cells, culture them, and infuse them back into your body. During that process, the cells are activated and trained to target and attack cancer cells.

Autologous cellular immunotherapy uses specific types of cells, mainly dendritic cells, NK cells and T lymphocytes. These cells act against cancer cells and recharge the immune system. When NK and T cells find a tumor cell, they attach to its membrane and release toxins that kill it, then move on to the next target.

Every case is different, which is why it's so important to review your specific situation. To find out if this therapy is right for you, call us or request a free case review.

What are the side effects of cancer treatment?+

Our program is designed to reduce side effects. Alongside your core treatment, we use supportive therapies that help your body tolerate treatment and recover, and you're monitored daily so any side effect is addressed right away.

Patients who have previously had chemotherapy receive a chemo-preconditioning program that helps reduce lingering effects such as nausea, fatigue, toxicity and anemia, so the body is in the best possible condition for treatment.

What kind of outcomes can patients expect?+

Every case is different, and no clinic can promise a cure. What we can say is that many of our patients achieve meaningful control of their disease, and some reach remission (no evidence of disease), while maintaining or improving quality of life. Outcomes depend on cancer type, stage and individual factors, and are never guaranteed. The best way to understand your specific situation is a case review with our physicians.

Can I undergo treatment at the Institute if I've had chemotherapy?+

Yes. Many of our patients are still on chemotherapy or have had it in the past, and many of our most successful cases had chemo before coming to us. Our treatments don't interfere with being on chemo the way many other treatments do. Our preconditioning program helps eliminate the toxic effects of previous chemotherapy and get the body into optimal condition for treatment.

Can the Institute treat stage IV cancer?+

Yes. Most of our patients come to us with stage IV disease. Each patient's outcome depends on their current health, medical history, eating habits and overall lifestyle, and our studies have shown that many of our cancer patients have reported benefit from our treatments.

For stage IV patients, time is of the essence. The sooner we review your case, the more options we're likely to have.
